STEM stands for Science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is important to incorporate into our students’ lives because it is incorporated into everything we do. STEM will create critical thinkers, problem solvers and collaboration opportunities. Searching STEM projects can be overwhelming as there are so many options out there. Here are five fantastic STEM projects to do in your classroom for a range of learners:

1. Balloon cars from Teachers are Terrific

Balloon cars are a fantastic STEM activity to complete with any year group. You provide limited materials such as cardboard, sticks, balloons, CD’s, tape and straws. Students need to realise that the car needs an axis (a straw on top of a stick) so the wheels can turn. It’s a fantastic project to watch!

2. Design a maze from Raising Lifelong Learners

All you need for this activity is a paper plate, straws, glue and a marble. You can set challenges such as getting two balls to go through the maze at once!

3. LEGO bridge

Create a paper stream and develop a challenge of building a LEGO or block bridge. You can put students in partners and have them work on either side of the stream. Make the challenge harder by setting a goal a weight the bridge needs to hold, or limiting the building materials each group receives.
